Here's my Red, White and Blue for you to enjoy this Memorial Day...
How To:
- Place your unwashed berries in a clean glass jar and tighten the lid. Store in the refrigerator (I use the vegetable bin). Depending upon the ripeness of your berries when you bring them home, you can enjoy them for about a week, plus:
- Strawberries will stay fresh about 1 to 2 weeks.
- Blueberries will remain fresh up to 4 weeks.
- Blackberries, a couple of weeks.
- Raspberries, about a week, plus. This is fantastic; as, otherwise, they notoriously don't last long!
Such A Simple Idea, and...
I certainly hope you try this super easy method to store your berries for a longer shelf life, as I know you'll love it as much as I do!
Enjoy a Very Berry Memorial Day and Summer!

ReplyDeleteThank you, Isabelle...I can't wait for you to try it either...enjoying all the berries you bought is now possible! Have a great Memorial Day and summer!
DeleteOkay Bonnie, I'm putting this one to the test! Our wild blueberries are coming in right now in full force as I've never seen before; as we speak, I have about a quart in the frig. Really hope it works as well as you say! I will be sharing this one tomorrow since I just made some blueberry topping for Kenny's ice cream..........Stay cool my friend and thanks. Regina
DeleteYou're going to love this method of storing your berries, Regina! I'd love to have some blueberry topping...how about your recipe for that! Thanks ahead for the share...you're always cool in my book, Regina!
Deletewhat about chemicals on the strawberries? won't that just make them worse?
Delete❤️
ReplyDeleteWould this work for grapes?
ReplyDeleteThat is a good question. I have not tried this method with grapes. I have read it is good to place them in a plastic bag, unwashed, in the coolest part (in the back) of your fridge.
DeleteYes! This works for grapes too!
DeleteThank you!!! I wii try this.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome...Enjoy!
DeleteWhy unwashed? Several times a day I like grabbing a few berries straight from the fridge as I'm walking by and popping them in my mouth for a quick snack. Lets me quickly keep going on with my day with no interuption. Having to go to the sink to wash them every time seems to defeat the "quick" out of quick snack.
ReplyDeleteKeeping them unwashed in a jar, until you are ready to use, prolongs the life of the berries. Sounds like you eat pretty often, so maybe just wash a few at a time; as I do with grapes...I rinse a few and place in a paper-towel lined bowl or container and leave on a shelf in the fridge to grab one or more as I desire. Thank you for your comment and Enjoy!
Delete@Unknown, as far as any chemicals on the berries, you do need to wash them, as close to when you eat them as possible. Storing them unwashed in a jar prolongs the life of the berries. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI just eat them unwashed. does a quick rinse really do all that much?
ReplyDeleteStrawberries are considered one of the "dirty dozen" foods. They are covered in pesticides. Buy organic when you can and DEFINITELY wash before you eat...organic or not.
DeleteThough they keep better unwashed,it is important to wash them before you eat. From Google: "Washing will help remove bacteria, including E. coli, from the surface of fruit and vegetables. Most of the bacteria will be in the soil attached to the produce. ... It is always advisable to wash all fruit and vegetables before you eat them to ensure they are clean and to help remove bacteria from the outside."
ReplyDeleteUgh I rinsed mine off first. Is that a problem?
ReplyDeleteIf you rinsed first, they won't last as long. I recommend you eat asap and put a piece of paper towel in the jar to help absorb moisture...check the berries daily. Good luck and thank you for visiting!
DeleteI heard this works with vegetables too!
ReplyDeleteReally works. I’ve stored blueberries for four weeks
ReplyDeleteI've not tried this with vegetables...so glad to hear Anonymous say that it works with vegetables also!
